Sunday, April 19, 2015 at 10:00 a.m, The Board of Cosmetology held a meeting for the purpose of updating the Rules and Regulations. All Board members were present along with Board Attorney Jeff Jernigan and Sherry Prather, Booneville Academy of Cosmetology….
It was clear that all Board members had reviewed their Rules and Regulations and were eager to voice their suggestions.
First on the list was definitions.. Rule 1.2
G. “Current photograph”…. They changed the 90 days to “taken recently” K. “Full Service Cosmetology Salon”……. GONE P. “Limited Service Cosmetology Salon”…. GONE Q. “Make-up Hours”…. Was changed back to read as it was approved in the 9-22-2014 rules and regulations… Yeah…. Yeah…. Finally some Board members with some common sense.
Rule 1.5 Board Meeting…. D. Members of the public must submit an “Agenda Request Form” to the Board office at least two (2) weeks in advance of the regularly scheduled meeting to be placed in the agenda… (2) weeks was changed back to (1) week……..
E. Any written request for consideration without personal appearance at the meeting must be submitted to the “Agenda Request Form” to the Board office not later than two (2) weeks preceding the regularly scheduled meeting… (2) weeks was changed back to (1) week……
F. The Board may, in its discretion, designate a period for public comments at the end of the meeting…. Revised to: The Board may, in its discretion, allow for public comments.
The Board worked through Chapter I “General” and Chapter II “Licensure” and plans on do a couple of chapters at a time until they have completed the full law book. Once completed the Board will follow its rules for making the changes permanent…. I will keep you posted on the process and report to you the changes that would GREATLY effect you…..
OH… Almost forgot that the Board did Jump ahead to Rule 5.18 Curriculum… D. Student Instructor….. 3. a. At least one (1) three-hour course must be acquired within a classroom setting ; all other may be acquired through web-based or online courses. Revised to: (12) twelve semester hours may be acquired within a classroom setting, web-based, or line courses…

Melvin , I think you are marvelous, you are to be congratulated and should be honored in some way for all the work and commitment you have put into getting our state board straighten out.

Sounds like the Governor made a good choice with this board. I have faith it is going to get better and better.
Hope everyone stands behind them and have patience. It’s going to take some time, but I have faith in the new board members.
