Executive Director Resigned!!!!!!

At the February 23, 2015 regular Board meeting Executive Director Cynthia Johnson submitted her letter of resignation to the Board.  Her reign of unprofessionalism  will end March 4, 2015…  My only question is WHY do we have to wait till March 4th????

Rumor has it that Cynthia Johnson has accepted a position at Virginia College-Jackson Campus as the Cosmetology Program Director…  Can anyone imagine that???? If she runs that office anything like she has ran the Board of Cosmetology Agency…. I don’t even want to think about it…. WAIT A MINUTIE…  Didn’t the former School Coordinator Stephanie Boone-Owens also accept the same position at Virginia College-Biloxi Campus…What is up with Virginia College or better yet let’s just say……  THANK YOU VIRIGNIA COLLEGE

Now for the rest of the meeting…  You could tell that there was a lot of tension in the room.. There was 2 of the newly appointed Board members present…  Darlene Smith who is taking Leisa McElreath’s place and Bertha Johnson who is taking Teresa Whitman’s place…  Their appointments will start 3/29/2015….

There were 8 request for duplicate licenses…   All were approved..  BOY has that number dramatically dropped..

Board attorney Jeff Jernigan addressed the Board concerning request for licensee holders names and address…  Jeff stated that the AG’s office has ruled that this information is confidential and should not be released to individuals…  He also stated that the Ethics Commission has before them the same question…  And all though there is no official opinion yet, there has been several comments that is leaning towards an agency being able to provide such a list of its licensee holders..   Dot Ennis asked Mr. Jernigan if he could supply the Board with the Written Opinion from the Attorney General’s Office….

Dot Ennis asked Executive Director Cynthia Johnson for a list of the Evaluators that PCS will be using to administer the practical examination.  Cynthia Johnson told Dot that she did not have such a list…  This discussion got extremely heated.  Dot told Cynthia that Matt Levy with PCS told her that the Board Office was given a list of the evaluators…..  Dot then asked Leisa McElreath if she had a list and Leisa replied NO…   Dot asked Leisa why did she not let the other Board members know about the training classes that was given to the new evaluators.  Leisa stated that she did not have too!!!!   To help shorten this story Leisa  McElreath has run the show when it comes to EVERY Thing dealing with this new testing company….  She actually helped to evaluate the evaluators during their 2 days of training…  BUT SHE HAS NO IDEA who they are????    Give me a break…  Dot Ennis asked School Coordinator Tavia Thornton to contact Matt Levy with PCS to ask for him to be present at the March 30, 2015 Board meeting…

There was a lot of different approvals for upcoming shows…  Reba Roy is having her Spring Seminar May 3rd and 4th you can contact her at rebaroy@att.net…  Karoline Finch “MCSA” received approval for their upcoming show June 7th & 8th to be held at the Imperial Palace, Biloxi…. This Continuing  Educational Seminar you don’t want to miss…. You can contact Karoline at mian04@bellsouth.net

This was the shortest Board meeting I have attended so far…. It was over by 11:30….  As always I will do my best to keep you updated with the progress as OUR NEW BOARD moves forward…..

Melvin, does anyone know who set the requirements for being considered as an evaluator or chief examiner for MS with PCS? I applied for both positions and did not qualify for either job. I have worked for 45 years and I am retired now but I still have a lot to offer. PCS called me and said there was a discrepancy with my resume and the Board of Cosmetology. I retired from teaching at Holmes Community College June 2013. It seems that they were told I was still teaching. After sorting all of that out I told them I did sub one week in June 2014 which disqualified me as chief examiner, so now I can apply again after June of this year. To be an evaluator, you must work 24 hours a week. I work part time 11 hours. Couldn’t be considered for an evaluator. By the way, it’s is never mentioned when we were asked to apply by PCS. These jobs are one Monday a month and don’t pay that much. This is probably not the place to make this comment but if the office of the Board made these requirements, they might want to make some changes. I would have loved to been considered. Debbie Coker

Thank you for your update. I’ll be glad when we can uplift each other instead of tearing each other apart… The recent articles in the Clarion Ledger make us look like a bunch of idiots. We’ve got to find a way to make all these licensees more aware of what is going on and motivate them to speak up!

I agree we have waited long. We need to get started working on getting our industry back to a profession . And get a good relationship started with our school and salons.

I am so glad we have a new Board. Let’s all work together with them to getting our industry where it should be. I was so embarrassed by what has been said in the Clarion Ledger.

My daughter graduated from Delta Tech in October. She has called both the State Board and Delta Tech numerous times regarding testing for license. She gets NO response from either. Her student loans come due in April, and she can not work because she has no license, because she can’t get a straight answer. Where/Who does she need to refer this matter to?????? Please advise. Thanking you in advance.
