The Mississippi Cosmetology School Association held their annual meeting June 8th and June 9th 2014, at the Vicksburg Convention Center. There was approximately 85 in attendance. The continuing education was provided by Pivot Point Educator Steven Janssen. There were no change in officers this year. Officers are Karoline Finch/President, Kathy Tollison/Vice-President, Heather Black/Secretary, David Derrick/Treasure and Deanna Johnson/Historian.
During the business meeting several topics were discussed and voted on for 2015 Legislation: Items 1-4 are the topics that the MCSA will bring to the Council meeting this fall.
1- An increase in hours for certain programs: Nail Tech raised to 600 hrs., Aesthetician raised to 750 hrs., These increases were voted on by the association and Passed… The Motion to raise the Cosmetology course to 1800 hrs. FAILED
2-Motion was made to increase the Barber Crossover program from 500 hrs. to 600 hrs. Passed
3-Motion to license Hair Braiders FAILED
4- There was discussion about only having two Instructor Programs…. 750 hrs. and 2000 hrs. No matter what program you are licensed in. My opinion on this is…..It makes perfect sense especially for those who are accredited institutions and are paying for all necessary fees for offering the different instructor programs, we would now only have 2 programs to have to pay fees on. Lets keep in mind we are training and instructor how to teach… Not how to do Hair, Skin, and Nails. This topic needs to be brought up at the council meeting.
5- A motion was made and passed to form a Historian Committee. During the past year the Historian Books were given a make-over by transferring prior years photos and information from previous association meetings into nice leather photo albums. During that process it was discovered that information and/or pictures from the years 2000 through 2010 are missing.
6- A motion was made and passed to form a Committee to review and make suggestions for up dating the Associations By-Laws.
7- The Association nominated Pat Zametto and Wanda Beauchamp for the Mississippi Cosmetology Hall of Fame.
Next years seminary will be on June 7th & 8th 2015

Great group, great education, great seminar! Wonderful topics to take to Council meeting on behalf of M.C.S.A. CONGRATULATIONS TO PAT ZAMETTO and WANDA BEAUCHAMP!!!… very deserving!
A great job was done on the Historian books. I feel for those that are in charge of them! It is a GREAT responsibility. I was a nervous jerk the entire time they were in my possession. “We” are investigating the “lost years” of the History. If you have any duplicate items in your MCSA files that could contribute to those years lost, please contact the current historian to get your information to them or xeroxed copies of it. Pictures would be great too!
