On Monday 9-28-2015 the Board meeting was called to order with all Board members along with Board attorney Jeff Jernigan present. Executive Director David Derrick was not present due to a requested meeting held at the Governor’s office…
Board Member Glenda Honeycutt asked if it was possible for there to be one Official Hearing Officer instead of all the Board Members having to attend. The Board asked Jeff Jernigan to research and get back to the Board with his findings… This would actually be a good idea, it would save the agency tons of money!!!!!!
The Board authorized the Agency to purchase a digital camera so that they could provide the service of taking pictures for license holders. At todays meeting the Board decided a $10.00 fee would be charged for this service….
Mr. Buddy Sharp who is the person that handles the support for the Agencies Hardware, was on todays agenda. Mr. Sharp brought a gentleman from “DATALYNKS” by to speak with the Board about purchasing new Software for the Agency. This new Software would be built specific to the Agencies needs… Yes, once competed it will also allow you to renew your licenses online!!!!! YAY… The estimated cost for the new software is $35 -$40 thousand dollars… The Board was excited but wanted to review the upcoming budget to make sure there was enough funding to handle this extra expense.
The Board discussed the contract that was signed with Cornerstone… Cornerstone is an accounting firm that works with various state agencies. The Board is contracting with Cornerstone to prepare the Agency’s FY 2017 Budget…
Executive Director David Derrick returned to the Board Meeting at which time he discussed with the Board that as of today they still did not have anyone to qualify for the following possessions…. “Beauty/Barber Inspector Senior” or “Director 5 School Coordinator”…… The Board made a motion to freeze the Beauty/Barber Inspector Senior and to just hire an additional Inspector… In doing this the territories would have to be re-divided and the Inspectors would have to start doing their own paperwork for the violation hearings. The Board also had discussion in lowering the qualifications of the Director 5 School Coordinator to allow someone who has been a Master Cosmetologist for 10 or more years or someone who is a licensed Cosmetology Instructor…

Lowering standards speaks volumes. Hate this has to be done.
I remember when they started lowering standards for HS kids to graduate then lowered standards for some kids to enroll in college — don’t need to say more
I think the board said the qualification change would be 10 yrs. as an active cosmetology master license.
Blog has been updated with the 10 yrs. instead of 5 yrs..
I’m sure it’s difficult to find good qualified cosmetology instructors to leave a teaching job that is paying a lot more to a much less paying position. I’m sure you must have good computer skills, communication skills and other qualifications to fill this position.
